General Information

Loxley Hall is a residential/day special school administered by Staffordshire Education Committee.

The School caters for boys between the ages of eleven and sixteen who have emotional and behavioural difficulties and whose needs can best be served in a specialist environment.

We can accommodate 40 boarders (Monday to Friday) and 20 day pupils. All pupils have a Statement of Special Education Needs.

Aims of the School
To deliver the National Curriculum in a broad and balanced format


To encourage to return of pupils to mainstream schooling or other day provision which is a recognisable progression from EBD provision;

To encourage resident pupils to day status;

Access and opportunity to appropriate certification and accreditation, and

To provide a basis for informed decision-making in adult life.


Facilities

The school is fortunate both in its physical setting and the extent of its facilities.

The main house contains residential accommodation in the Form of House Units; assembly hall, library, dining room and recreation rooms. The purpose built classroom block consists of 4 classrooms, a CDT room, a science room, an ICT suite and a well appointed gymnasium, all facing onto an outdoor, heated swimming pool. We also have additional teaching accommodation in the form of a double mobile classroom.

The grounds surrounding the main building are extensive and include playground, wooded areas and playing fields.
Staffing

Teaching staff consists of a Head Teacher, Deputy Head Teacher and 8 fulltime Assistant Teachers. In addition to teaching staff we have a Head of Care and 9 Residential Care Workers, together with a Domestic Bursar and a full ancillary staff.

The efforts of all staff in their respective roles are directed towards providing a rich residential experience.
Curriculum

The School follows the pattern laid down in the National Curriculum. We operate a secondary school system with specialist subject teaching. We employ a variety of methods from individual to class teaching. Pupil/teacher ratio is approximately 1:8. We have a well developed Careers Programme, including Work Experience and College courses. The School is well resourced in the area of Information Technology (IT).

Extra Curricular Activities

The School operates a club system between 5.30 p.m. and 7.00 p.m. There are a number of organised clubs each evening and boys may choose from a wide variety of options. In addition to in house provision we offer a wide variety of external activities, including Riding, Swimming, Youth Club, Army Cadets and other recreational activities.
Daily Organisation

The residential day begins at 7.30 am and continues to 9.15pm for Junior Boys and 10pm for Senior Pupils. The teaching day begins with an Act of Worship at 9.00 am and ends at 3.45 p.m.
